Submitted on 9/15/2016 Review title of AnarchyyFoxEnjoyably QuaintThis game is one to approach with a little curiousity & a few loose dollars. Im finding the art loveable, the controls simple & a sudden growing interest in the presented Norse Mythology.

Most outstanding is the Art Style that leaves you feeling tiny compared to the World & Jotun/Giants around you. Appearing to look rather short length wise, I am finding the game with its challenges. The Massive Boss's send you packing with just a few blows & the maps themselves need to be explored throughly for their secrets. Sadly though the game's 'arcadey' simplicity does leave a little to desire; mostly in areas of depth & immersion. Overall, I can't really give Jotun a 5 because of this.

That said though, it lands at a very solid 4 for what it is; A quaint little action adventure with a rich art style, great soundscape, simple story & fair price for a few hours of challenge. It tells the tale of a Viking woman that unfolds gently over the course of the game, without breaking pace. The boss fights are challenging and they have character that is reflected in the enironments, similar to Shadow of The Colossus' likening to the bosses in their environments. The world is vast but exploration is not heavily incentivized, and will require patience as the movement speed is not fast- but this also lends to the artistic appreciation factor, and every environment and object is hand drawn and animated and must be seen to appreciate.

The music score is flawless and keeps from being distracting, and is also loaded with perfect audio cues to subtly heighten suspense and set the tone for every single space within an area, and will dynamically shift when you approach certain paths or objects. The story takes a backseat to the audiovisual presentation in my opinion, but thats not to say its bad, this is a compelling title worth your $.

Despite both games being produced simultaneously and sharing the same name and box art, they were different games, sharing only their character design and music score, with the Mega Drive release acting as a direct sequel and the SNES game being a spin-off.
