Spread the word about this great game and don't be afraid to demonstrate how to play to others. You all were new once. We all know it was painful, but be patient when teaching or you might ruin the game for them.Ps: You just lost the game. I am very partial to War of Shadows and Rise of Vigil.

People really like Dreamscape, and I think the cards are pretty good on that one. The Dreamscape mechanic is meh to me, it adds a form of luck that is wholly unresponsive to opponent input into a game that is already very luck-heavy (1. You draw cards that only you can buy, some of which are extremely powerful, and 2. You acquire the currency to buy these cards mostly by luck).

Still, I think the three I mentioned here have the most interesting innovations on the base game of those I've played. For what it's worth, I think Shards of Infinity is overall a much better balanced, refined, and strategic game in general. If it appeals at all you may look into the app for that one, which is really well done. An interesting thing about Shards is that one of the physical expansions includes a co-op campaign mode (like Aeon's End, a bit), so that could be something to look forward to post-quarantine if you and your friends wish!. I really hope that more people continue to discover this game. It takes a lot of ideas from Star Realms, but to me it is much less swingy and more strategic. I actually feel like I am choosing my strategy, foregoing other strategies, and responding to my opponent.

I also like the 'it's not over 'til it's over' feel, and have had some great comebacks (or sudden defeats) that I or my opponent WORKED FOR rather than simply lucky draws like Star Realms. In Ascension, the VP pool 'game timer' is hard to deal with if you have a slow start, whereas Shards lets you heal, use shields, go for a fast attack, etc. In response to a bad start.

And mastery still provides a soft game timer, but honestly I've yet to get to 30 mastery and win by infinity damage.I was going to buy Aeon's End, but after watching some playthroughs and reading about the (second) coop Shards expansion, went with that instead. I find 'fighting the boss deck' a little bit fiddly so I only need one coop deckbuilder, and the Shards synergies and powers are already really compelling to me. My girlfriend and I enjoyed the co-op campaign, but I think like fighting eachother more:)One thing we didn't like is relics (from the first expansion). It felt like the game became more of a race for mastery, and also set us down a path determined by our available relics. Whoever gets their relic first seems to get an almost insurmountable advantage.

Alfheim

The other cards in the Relics expansion are fine, but honestly the base game is good enough for most players and I'd recommend the coop expansion for a wholly different experience first. How did you feel about Relics?. Personally, I really like the relics. They change strategies or support a different strategy as you play to get them. In the case of Rez and his relic that, at 20 mastery, has him banish 3 cards but also get their effect. That's a relic I like to build to while slimming my deck before, so that I can slam it down and rush out a lot of effects at once and make it come up faster and faster from then on.Personally, I've hit 30 mastery both against others, and against bosses. I've also, twice now, had someone hit 30 mastery but then they were killed before they could get their Shard out.

And I, myself, have hit 30 mastery and forgotten that I already banished my shard(by mistake). I also did a game against one of the bosses where I got my deck slimmed down to just 5 cards by the 5th round and got my mastery to 30 so fast that it was laughable. In fairness about the relics, I have also forgotten to use them sometimes, and some of them are way more effective than others and I'm not 100% sure how I feel about them. But I do love the cards they added to the market deck, that give additional powers if the right character gets the cards.

I agree that the way unique player powers were implemented, as cards in the trade deck rather than additions to the player boards, was really smart for offering counterplay and uncertainty. The new trade cards also aren't insanely overpowered and could help anyone.

I think they'd work best multiplayer, but even in two player they add some tension. To be honest, we haven't tried the relics much. I totally shut down my girlfriend once with a Decima relic, and not only was it unfun for her, but also for me as it was just too easy. Zombotron (steam). We just stopped using them after that match. I also think the green relic with 50 healing is pretty nuts. And again, it forces you down a path to collect only or mainly green to ensure that unite effect occurs every time you draw the card (if I'm recalling the card correctly). But, this is my favorite of the deck dueling games I've played by a good margin. I've heard one more expansion is planned, after which the team will move onto a new IP, whereas Ascension will be eternal.

So we have a lot to look forward to!. Ah, sorry I misunderstood! I usually play Ascension sets by themselves, especially the ones I mentioned. War of Shadows, for example, has day/night cards that will be diluted if mixed. Similarly, you won't get as many opportunities to receive/use energy cards if you mix Rise of Vigil (except with its small expansion). The beauty of digital is you can easily experiment with different mixes for Ascension. Other people like mixing a lot of different things together.

My view is each set seems to have its own identity and I like to experience the idea of each set undiluted.I don't really like having a huge, especially difficult to anticipate trade deck. Other people like a whole lot of variety and unpredictability in their games.
